The upcoming Mexico City Grand Prix weekend will be a special occasion for Cadillac driver Sergio Perez for two distinct reasons.
On one hand, it marks a home race for the Guadalajara-born driver, who enjoys massive support in his native country. On the other, he will celebrate his 300th career start in Formula 1, a journey that began back in 2011 with Sauber.
While this will be Perez's 304th Grand Prix appearance, it will be his 300th race start, having entered four race weekends where he ultimately did not make the grid. In his rookie campaign, he missed the Monaco and Canadian Grands Prix following a heavy qualifying crash in the Principality, while a mechanical issue prevented him from starting in Malaysia in 2015. More recently, in 2020, the Mexican tested positive for COVID-19, forcing him to withdraw from the British Grand Prix shortly before the weekend got underway.
