The letter was said to have been sent to the Senate on Sunday, January 23, by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.

The upper legislative chamber had, on December 15, 2016, rejected Magu after it was presented with a security report on him compiled by the Department of State Services (DSS).

The DSS accused Magu of corruption and alleged that he was living in a house paid for by a corrupt businessman.
