Former world champion Kalle Rovanperä surprised his former Toyota teammates ahead of Rally Estonia, the ninth round of the WRC season. Rovanperä stepped away from rallying at the end of last year to pursue a career in circuit racing, but his season in Japan's Super Formula was cut short by illness.
Doctors recently gave Rovanperä a clean bill of health, but he has yet to announce his future plans. Toyota's chairman, Akio Toyoda, has stated that there will always be a place for Kalle in the brand's WRC team.
Rovanperä claimed his first World Championship victory in Estonia back in 2021. He followed this up with two more wins at the high-speed gravel rally in 2022 and 2023, securing three consecutive victories at Ott Tänak's home event.
Kalle was seen chatting with Oliver Solberg, last year's winner in Estonia, and Sébastien Ogier, who won the previous round in Greece. The team simply explained that he was "giving them some advice for the race."
