Superstar Lionel Messi is thoroughly enjoying his sixth World Cup campaign, and his teammates are soaking up the joy of their captain, Argentine international Rodrigo de Paul stated today at a press conference ahead of their semi-final clash against England.

“Seeing him enjoy himself makes me truly happy, considering everything he’s been through with this jersey and everything he’s had to fight for,” De Paul said of his teammate, with whom he also plays for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer.

“I think this World Cup has really allowed him to have fun. Of course, we all know his mentality and how he prepares and approaches every match. But I see him happy and enjoying the game. As his friend, that makes me very happy,” the midfielder added.

The 32-year-old De Paul played in the World Cup final in Qatar four years ago, where Argentina defeated France on penalties, and he knows what it will take to reach Sunday’s decisive match in New York. As a central midfielder, he is more cautious than others.

“Of course, we have many concerns because we are facing a great team. They have many top-class players, and I think they also have a great coach,” De Paul said about England.

“But these things just keep us focused. We spend our time together, just to establish that we are in control,” De Paul further shared.

“Being just one step away from playing another World Cup final... there’s no greater motivation than that,” De Paul emphasized as other Argentinians took to the field for their final training session.

“In the World Cup, every match is a final. The World Cup is a dream for every footballer, and I’m sure the same feelings prevail in the other three teams that have made it this far. I am very happy and full of adrenaline. Personally, I really enjoy such matches. I try to fully live in the moment, without letting emotions overwhelm us. That’s why we put a lot of thought into preparing for tomorrow’s match, especially in staying calm and composed,” the Argentinian explained.

“We succeeded in the Copa América. I know it’s always much harder to win again after you’ve already won. Staying at the top for so many years is not easy, and we managed to do it. I am very proud of my teammates,” De Paul added.
