In a bid to implement the housing policy contained in Gov. Nyesom Wike’s development agenda, a verification process of all state owned properties has begun.
The Governor promised to address the housing needs of the Rivers people during his campaign.
According to the Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Emma Okah, all government owned properties that are illegally occupied, will be recovered.
Okah also added that “It is inappropriate and unacceptable, for hoodlums and other persons to forcefully take over government houses and occupy such as if there were no government and laws. Regrettably they are neither paying any rent nor maintaining the houses. Worse still, they are not grateful to the state through discharge of moral basic maintenance obligations.”
While visiting Iriebe Satellite Town, he decried the level of vandalism that had taken place in the government owned estate.
The commissioner also warned illegal occupants of government owned properties, to hand over the properties to the Rivers state ministry of housing.
