Stuffed tiger strapped to SUV prompts 911 call in Washington state
Police in Washington state said on Wednesday they had responded to an emergency call about a Bengal tiger lounging on top of a car, but it turned out the cat was actually a big stuffed animal. A concerned citizen called 911 on Monday after seeing what appeared to be a live tiger riding atop a sport utility vehicle at Lacamas Lake, a popular recreation area, according to police in the city of Camas.
British public asked what creative person should be on next 20 pound note
The British public will for the first time be able to help decide which historic figure - in this case a creative one - appears on the next version of the country's 20 pound note, the Bank of England said on Tuesday. The BoE regularly changes who appears on British banknotes, and there was controversy in 2013 when the choice of Winston Churchill to succeed 19th century social reformer Elizabeth Fry on the five pound note meant future notes would depict no women other than the current monarch Queen Elizabeth.

Perhaps not since Cinderella lost a glass slipper at the ball has there been such a stir about glamorous footwear as there was on Tuesday in Cannes over a report that women had been turned away from a film premiere for failing to wear heels. Social media and the festival gossip circuit lit up after the Screen Daily trade publication reported that a handful of women had been refused entry to Sunday's premiere of Todd Haynes's lesbian romance "Carol" for wearing flats.
Deceased councilwoman in Pittsburgh wins Democratic primary
A councilwoman who died earlier this month easily defeated the only other candidate on the ballot for the Pennsylvania county that includes Pittsburgh, results showed on Wednesday. Incumbent Barbara Daly Danko, 61, died of cancer on May 6 but remained on Tuesday's ballot for the party's nomination for a seat on the Allegheny County Council.
