God’s wives do not bleed, just like God, their husbands remain forever a part of them even though apart.

“I, in front of this congregation and God take you to be mine; lawfully and wedded: to have and to hold, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish till death do us part”:

Death came calling...

That was the vow; the promise of a lifetime, the plan, till death came knocking far much earlier than expected and stuck a sour foot on a relationship that was all so ‘sweet’ and made a fool out of a vow witnessed by man and God. That was it, before death casted a shadow on what was meant to have been a together forever and ever after.

God’s wives!!!

The pain runs too deep, the scars refuse to fade; days run into weeks and weeks into months of wishing this was all a lie, of wishing I’d wake to the heat of your body right beside me on that part of the bed we once had heated arguments over severally, about things that have come to mean nothing, oh; how I wish we’d fight again, how I wish you were here.

God’s Wives!!!

It’s a little past midnight and you aren't home yet, I want to call your work but it’s late. I try to remember if the trip you told me about is today; I try a lot of things like keeping the faith we both cherished so much while you breathe. It hurts even today just like yesterday, and that day. The cut runs too deep and no surgeon has been able to fill up this heart which was once your home.

God’s Wives!!!

I am asked to stay strong while falling apart: “We need you to stay strong now more than ever, they whisper their condolences, advices and admonitions.” Stay strong for yourself, stay strong for ‘this’ and ‘that’ and most importantly, stay strong for your children they screech.

Suddenly the journey called marriage embarked upon becomes lonesome and a burden that two could barely bare alone becomes a person’s cross. Love suddenly has a distaste and beautiful memories become clouded.

God’s Wives!!!

Today I told your son to pray with me and he blatantly refused. I thought it was a joke but I got the shock of my life. I asked why and He silently whispered, “God doesn't answer prayers Mum, God doesn't. I asked Him to wake dad but He refused. Mum, He doesn't.” All I could say was “But He does,” repeatedly while trying not to let the tears fall, before He ran out on me. You always knew what to say to Him, you would have known how to reply.

P.S: This article is dedicated to widows; especially young ones around the world; for their everyday struggles, fight for sanity, search to find love again… Women who has despite all odds stay calm and strong because of themselves and more importantly their children, because being strong is the only option they’ve got. (Inspired by documentary titled “God’s wives”).

P.P.S: Treatments accorded to wives in the event of their husbands’ death in some parts of the world need to be stopped. We all need to be more open and caring, and stop making promises to people in need never to have them fulfilled.

And for those, who upon their brothers and uncles or close male relative deaths’, they feel it’s their responsibility to ‘torture’ and take over everything the man and his wife have silently labored for and whose ‘rewards’ are now out in the open, all in the name of tradition and culture; with claims that ‘that is how it is been done’, now is the time to call those actions quit. That is a level of slavery which shouldn't be allowed to rein forces in today’s world.
