Immediately following his points loss to Conor Benn at the Netflix-streamed boxing gala, Prograis announced his retirement from the sport in an interview with Fight Hype. While he displayed his characteristic heart and resilience, it was evident during the fight that the former world champion was facing physical difficulties, and he now brings his career to a close.
"This was definitely my last fight," Prograis stated. "This was my final bout. Even before it was announced, I knew my next fight would be my last... It was the perfect ending, straight out of a storybook. I won't lie, if I were writing a book, this is the ideal way to conclude it – against someone bigger, supposedly stronger. We fought in front of a 70,000-strong stadium. I love that, man. Honestly, in my career, I achieved everything I ever wanted. So there's really no way I can be unhappy... I was dreading the fight, but I pushed through it... I told all my partners I didn't want to fight, I wanted to retire about a month ago. I was going to quit today, I was going to quit yesterday... I picked up a few injuries during training camp, but honestly, none of that affected my performance tonight," he added.
Prograis concludes his career with a professional record of 30 wins, 4 losses, and 24 knockouts.
