England seam bowler Reece Topley has suffered a fractured hand while batting in his County Championship debut for Hampshire against Warwickshire.

Topley, who joined Hampshire from Essex, took a bouncer on his right glove from Ireland paceman Boyd Rankin on day one of the 2016 season.

The full damage to the 22-year-old is not known, but Topley confirmed at least one fracture ahead of a consultation with a specialist.

"Unfortunately I got one on the back of the hand yesterday so I rushed off for an X-ray and unfortunately there's a fracture in there," Topley told Sky Sports.

"There's at least one, there might be a few but we're not sure yet - I have to see a hand specialist later but I suppose that's one of the risks of the job of cricket."

Topley – who was dropped following the second World Twenty20 group match against South Africa – has played 10 one-day internationals and six T20 matches for England since making his debut in August 2015.
