Red Star's Roster Slowly Taking Shape, But One Piece is Missing: A Familiar Playmaker Could Be the Solution

The Red Star Meridianbet roster is slowly coming together. The team from Mali Kalemegdan was quiet for most of July, but with Jared Butler's contract extension, they've kicked into high gear. David Kramer and Jonathan Motley are the new additions, but the search for a true point guard, a crucial piece, continues.

With Motley and Kramer, the Red Star Belgrade squad has gained significant assets. The former Hapoel Tel Aviv center is an offensive powerhouse, and unlike previous years, they now have a player who can effectively space the floor and pose a threat from beyond the arc.

Kramer is a player who will fully commit to the team's success, as evidenced during his time at Tenerife and, in a smaller sample size, at Real Madrid. Red Star has acquired a skilled shooter and an even better defender, but there's still a noticeable gap.

The departure of Cody Miller-McIntyre has left a significant void at the point guard position. While Red Star has brought in Chris Jones, a proven EuroLeague player, he doesn't quite fit the mold that fans at Mali Kalemegdan are accustomed to. Jones primarily creates for himself, whether from mid-range or three-point shots. Therefore, Red Star needs a true playmaker, and neither Tyson Carter nor Jared Butler fully fit that description.

Consequently, one player, in particular, stands out as the ideal solution for the Red and Whites: none other than Luka Vildoza.

Since leaving Red Star, the Argentine has played for three different teams in three years: Panathinaikos, Olympiacos, and Virtus. This summer, he's once again searching for a new home, and Red Star is an ideal fit for him.

His quick, Spanish-style basketball, rather than positional attacks, suits him best. During his first stint in the red and white jersey, he was so effective that he was named December's MVP, though the end of the season left a bitter taste. Perhaps it's time to rectify some aspects of his first tenure and return to the Red Star rotation with a significant role.

The fact that he is married to Serbian volleyball player Milica Tasić and clearly considers Serbia his second home further supports this. His first stint, especially the initial few months, was pure magic; he adapted seamlessly to Duško Ivanović's system and was the team's primary offensive threat.

It must be said that injuries disrupted his rhythm, as did the premature rumors of his contract with Panathinaikos, turning him into a shadow of the player who once electrified the "Aleksandar Nikolić" Hall. The solution truly presents itself naturally; Vildoza already knows everything. There's no need to wait for him to integrate into the team; on the contrary. If the crowd carries him, we'll witness "Tango Argentino" Part Two.
