“The idea came from frustration with phone calls that seem to drag on endlessly and the rare use of FaceTime. Now you can quickie your friends at any time,” Ben Cera, one of the developers of the app, says.

The team that developed the app had been working on 6 different apps in different areas and the final result, with & months of runway left, is Quickie, a dead simple communication app.

When you really look at it, Quickie is a cross between Yo and Snapchat. When you open the app, a list of all your friends is presented. You can select the length of the call and then tap on the name of the friend you wish to call. Your friend then receives a notification and can decided whether to act on it.

When someone accepts the Quickie, you get a full-screen video call. But it’s not your traditional video call. You can see the timer at the bottom, which makes it impossible to start a long conversation- at most Quickie videos will last 60 seconds.
