Ozee what’s really good? I might take this article a little personal because I know this guy, we both from the same city Port Harcourt and I have known him from his Navy high school days with Wizzy and Green House with Alan. I remember the day in Green House with Alan, ozee was rapping and asked us to call any word or item around and he would include it in his rap and surprisingly he did, that’s when I knew he was one of the greats out of the city. Even in Covenant University, I got feedback on how he was the best rapper and I wasn’t surprised.
Getting signed to Aristokrat Records was a good move for you because they have a very good platform to showcase your talent and Peedi is a visionary, but there is a but. This is just my opinion as a concerned lover of music and lover of the growth and success of the underdogs, especially Port-Harcourt’s very own.
Ozee, the problem I think you have is that you are too dope. It’s funny right? But that’s actually a problem in this part of the world. A greater number of Nigerians are not really interested in decoding your super dope lines; you need to think about making music for the grass root masses. You need to know your target audience, are you making music for just your goons and home boys? Or are you making music for 173million people.
Secondly, Oboy ozee, you need to try something new. You need to try working on beats that will appeal to a larger audience and not just hip-hop heads. Leriq na my paddi, he is a genius, I understand what he is doing with the whole “lost sounds” parole but why don’t you guys give Nigerians what they want first? And when you are fully recognized then you can start experimenting. I know Leriq can come through effortlessly like he did on Like to Party and Run my Race but the guy too stubborn lol. I am not saying you should go wack, I don’t even think you can go wack even if you try but.... You no wetin I de talk about. This is when your creativity comes into play, you can make use of whatever beat and turn it around to suit your standard and still sound fresh. If possible, you should try working with other producers so they can bring out another side of you that you didn’t even know about.
Superiority complex was a good body of work I must say, and I was really impressed with the tape art work. 1000, Introduction, look twice and All I know are the best songs off the tape to me, and I loved All I know way way before the tape dropped. On the Hennessy cypher you sef know say you kill am, Vector also came through too. Destiny is also a very good song.
I really hope you get my point. You proved to us a long time ago that you can actually rap, now it’s time to make more people appreciate your art and make good music that appeals to everyone.“If dem no like us, dem no need to like us, we came from Port-Haicot”
