The drama is real. Peter and Paul Okoye, the Psquare twins are not scamming Nigeria. All the noise from Squareville are authentic and carries weight.

Nigerians are regarded as one of the most skeptical and doubtful folks on earth. Due to societal conditioning and years of having our fingers burnt by conmen, and our collective intelligence regularly tricked by pop stars via publicity stunts, we have developed a default sense of cynicism and shrewd analysis.

We are biased against people. Every stranger starting off from a place of guilt, and slowly (emphasis on ‘slowly’) working his/her way to innocence, and maybe, trust.

That’s why this Psquare case seems a bit off to many Nigerians. It is not the fault of the twins to have people doubt their genuine problems. We Nigerians are wired to doubt. Also, the twins are also guilty of being involved in PR stunts. Two years ago, Peter and Paul had a ‘messy’ fight, which drove them to the brink of separation. But just as Nigerians bit into the bait, and decided to follow the drama, they conveniently reconciled, settled their differences and dropped the “Double Trouble” album.

This feels like déjà vu. Another trouble, which includes the elder brother, might just be the the forerunner and precursor of the next LP titled “Triple Trouble”.

Only this time, the problems are real. The family house is on fire.

Logically, Psquare would be naïve to go down the road of the fight that occurred in 2014. They understand the damage that did to their reputation. If they wanted a media stunt, there are a million ways to. These shrewd business and family men know this. The only way this happens is if it happens for real.

Peter’s grouse is with Jude. The manager, elder brother, video director and promoter of the twins has an undisclosed revenue sharing formula which has made Peter request his exit from their affairs. Paul Okoye sees no problem with the current state of things and has taken sides with team Jude. Peter is unperturbed, quickly launching his solo career.

This is real. Already, Cynthia Morgan, Illbliss, Peter Obi, and a number of celebrities are on a campaign to stop the split from becoming reality. Voice from around the country are pledging their efforts to bring back the group. Paul Okoye, the man in the middle, have already released a song, wishing their late mother were alive. Only she could speak reason into the hearts of the warring brothers.

The general prayer and hope is that the twins, who have given Nigeria immense joy via music, would stick together, at least for the short term, and find a way to move past this episode. They need to release more music, and fans keep hoping they stay together.
