Proven Wrong! Renowned Basketball Player and Coach on Jalen Brunson: 'He's Too Small to Lead an NBA Team to a Title'
The New York Knicks have clinched the NBA title, with guard Jalen Brunson earning the Finals MVP award. Brunson delivered a stellar 45-point performance in Game 5, leading the Knicks to a 94-90 victory over the San Antonio Spurs to seal the championship.
Throughout the Finals series and the entire playoffs, Brunson proved his capability to lead a team to a championship, undoubtedly bolstered by strong contributions from his teammates.
Back in December 2023, Becky Hammon, head coach of the WNBA's Las Vegas Aces, made a comment about Brunson that, even then, seemed somewhat dismissive. The Knicks' championship run has now definitively proven her assessment wrong.
At the time, ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins suggested that Brunson could be a primary option and a leading player for a championship-caliber team, a sentiment Hammon disagreed with.
“He’s too small,” she stated during an appearance on NBA Today, adding, “If your best player is small, you’re not winning. Steph Curry is the only exception.”
The 49-year-old Hammon boasts an impressive career, having won six WNBA titles as a player. She also has NBA coaching experience, serving for several years as an assistant under the legendary Gregg Popovich with the San Antonio Spurs.
