Jiří Procházka is devastated after letting the light heavyweight title slip through his fingers at UFC 327. On Saturday night, Procházka (32-6-1 MMA, 6-3 UFC) appeared moments away from reclaiming the gold belt after Carlos Ulberg (14-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC) sustained a knee injury early in their main event bout at the Kaseya Center in Miami. Instead of pressing his advantage, Procházka left himself open for a left hook from Ulberg, who landed it for a spectacular knockout.
Immediately after the fight in the octagon, Procházka told Joe Rogan that he had slowed down and shown "mercy" to Ulberg instead of finishing the job. This ultimately led to his downfall. Now, Procházka is pushing for a rematch to rectify his mistake.
"Thank you all for the support," Procházka wrote on Instagram Stories. "I'm currently getting my jaw checked at the hospital. Huge apologies for my performance tonight. I still can't comprehend my foolish mercy in the fight, which cost me this match. I would like a rematch because this was my fight. This was my fight, and I gave him an opportunity to catch me. Big apologies to everyone who supports me."
Following UFC 327, the future of the 205-pound division remains uncertain. After the fight, Ulberg told www.mmajunkie.com and other reporters that he believes he tore ligaments in his knee, which could mean a lengthy recovery and leave the division in limbo.
With a record of one win and three losses in undisputed title fights, Procházka could potentially get another shot if an interim belt is created, which would set up a rematch scenario with Ulberg. For now, however, Procházka is preparing to return to the Czech Republic, where he is awaiting the birth of his daughter any moment.
