Presidency blames slow eradication of virus on poor economy

Through better support for health organisations, the president believes that the fight against the eradication of the virus will become a thing of the past.

The downturn of the Nigerian economy has been responsible for the slow eradication of polio in the country, as funds expected for this aren’t readily available.

This was disclosed by President Muhammadu Buhari, in a statement marking the second anniversary of the last time the polio virus was recorded in Nigeria.

According to Punch News, the last time the virus was reported in the country was on July 24, 2014.

Going forward, Buhari mentioned that his administration will make sure that funds are provided in order to ensure that the disease remains totally extinct.

The president recognized stakeholders who have made immense efforts to battle the occurrence of polio in Nigeria.

To solidify the fight, the presidency reaffirmed its commitment to continue giving support to health organizations, who have contributed to the struggle through funding.
