a thirsty fool stood on a mountain

“god, i have faith in you,” he says

bring me water from the stream below”

god looks at him with disdain

faith, without work, never pays

there’s water below, you know!”

he held on to faith, waiting in vain

skin burnt as though into fire immersed

“god, do not forsake me so!”

down at the foot of the mountain

water bubbles form and burst

as crocodiles, deers, frogs and jays
