Almost four years on from his explosive interview with Cristiano Ronaldo following the forward's fallout with Erik ten Hag at Manchester United ahead of the 2026 World Cup, Piers Morgan continues to stand by the Portuguese star. Taking to social media, the British broadcaster launched a fresh tirade against Jorge Jesus and his critics.
"What an arrogant idiot. Jesus was never good enough to play for the Portugal national team and now he revels in belittling the country's greatest-ever player, Cristiano. He is Portuguese football. What has been done to Cristiano is a disgrace," Morgan fumed.
Morgan also hit out at the decision to hand Ronaldo's iconic number 7 shirt to Rafael Leão after the captain departed the training camp early, just a day before the clash in Denmark—even though UEFA regulations mandate that a 23-man squad must wear numbers 1 to 23.
"Disgusting, if true. After all Cristiano has done for Portugal, why on earth are they treating him like this? Yesterday was his father's birthday, and he famously played for the national team the day after his father passed away. It is disgraceful to see this shocking lack of respect for their best player," he added.
