Arsenal legend 'in the running' for Manchester City top job

Ex-Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira is said to be in the running to become the manager of Manchester City.

Current manager Manuel Pellegrini has endured a turbulent season which is about to end trophyless and is reportedly set to face the axe with Vieira ready to step in.

The Frenchman is currently in charge of the club's Under-21 development squad and is being groomed to become the manager at the Etihad in the future.

According to reports, City top guns could fast track his promotion to manager of the first team after Patrick Vieira has impressed in his work with the club’s elite development squad.

There have also been speculated that Manuel Pellegrini will leave Manchester City before the end of the season and Patrick Vieira is willing to step in as interim manager until the end of the season.

Manchester United heaped more pressure on the beleaguered City boss with a 4-2 win at Old Trafford, lifting them four points clear of their rivals in the race for a UEFA Champions League place.
