Frank Warren has urged patience regarding the ongoing saga surrounding the Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury fight. The promoter insists the bout will happen.
Both fighters have signed contracts, but each still has unfinished business with other opponents before the all-British super-clash can be officially announced — provided Fury indeed secures a tune-up fight.
Joshua is set to face Christian Prenga on July 25 in Saudi Arabia, while Fury has hinted at an August bout.
Assuming both emerge victorious, all parties involved — the anticipated broadcast partner Netflix, various promotional groups, and the boxers themselves — will then agree on a date and venue. A multitude of people are involved, but an immense amount of money is also on the table. So, in short, no one should panic. The stakes are simply too high for all participants for this fight not to happen.
“Sela, with whom Tyson has a contract, and I presume the same applies to AJ, obviously have their preferences for where the fight should take place,” Warren told Sky Sports. “Netflix, who will be broadcasting it, will also have their preferences. Ultimately, everyone needs to agree and be satisfied.”
“The fight is agreed, the bout will happen — unless one of them is defeated in these two upcoming matches they have. The fight is agreed, there are no problems. One thing is certain: both have agreed to this fight. AJ has a fight in July, and I believe Tyson will also have a fight — I don't yet know where it will be or on what date. Once those fights are over, their clash will be in late autumn.”
“I don't see any problems organizing this fight. Everyone will be satisfied,” Warren added. “Let their respective bouts happen first — once that's done, an announcement will follow.”
