PARTIZAN VS MEGA: Black-and-Whites eye flying start in ABA League after EuroLeague surge, but giant-killing Mega loom
- The ABA League has finally tipped off after a dispute with referees delayed the start and caused round one to be skipped
- The Black-and-Whites boast a perfect 3-0 start in the EuroLeague, with the 'Pink' squad set to be their first regional test
- The match will be played behind closed doors
Partizan vs Mega (Tip-off 18:30 CET)
Although the Black-and-Whites enter as heavy favourites, Mega's young and vibrant squad has proven year after year that they can never be written off. It is well known that they relish clashes against top-tier opposition, where they regularly pull off upsets.
Partizan will vividly remember February's clash in the semi-finals of the Radivoj Korać Cup in Niš, when Mega staged a major upset, defeating the Black-and-Whites to reach the final against Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet.
However, circumstances have changed drastically since that meeting. Mega enter the new campaign with a heavily overhauled and once again rejuvenated roster, while Partizan underwent a major reconstruction and brought in marquee reinforcements.
Peñarroya: We just need to keep building on this
Spanish head coach Joan Peñarroya has hit the ground running this season, quickly putting the pieces together. The Black-and-Whites head into this matchup in high spirits and full of confidence following an impressive 3-0 start in the EuroLeague.
He noted that the team used the previous two days to rest and prepare.
"We had Saturday to rest, and Sunday to train and prepare for the ABA League opener. For us, the most important thing is to continue building on our game," said Joan Peñarroya.
Partizan vice-captain Joffrey Lauvergne stated that the Black-and-Whites must deliver a solid performance if they want to secure victory against Mega.
"Our first ABA League game is ahead of us. Mega are a good team with young talent, and I believe we will have to play very well against such an opponent," said Joffrey Lauvergne.
Behind Closed Doors
Partizan will kick off their new AdmiralBet ABA League campaign in front of empty stands at home, serving a sanction imposed following incidents during Game 4 of last season's regional championship finals.
"BC Partizan will begin the new ABA League season without fan support in the stands due to a penalty for incidents in Game 4 of the regional championship finals. Partizan fans, your support is one of the most vital factors in our team's fight for every win! Be smart—in upcoming games, cheer in accordance with competition rules! Do not throw objects onto the court, do not block aisles, and show true sportsmanship! Do not let suspensions deprive you of the chance to back the Black-and-Whites! Do not leave us without your support again! See you soon in the arena!" - BC Partizan
