The contest was largely decided during a dominant first half from the hosts. Liam Rosenior's side came close early on when Pierre Lees-Melou struck the woodwork from long range in the 13th minute, before Ilan Kebbal fired the rebound over the crossbar. Paris FC's relentless pressure eventually paid off in the 38th minute as Lassine Sinayoko latched onto Maxime Lopez's through ball to break the deadlock. Monaco almost responded immediately, but Aleksandr Golovin dragged his effort wide. Sinayoko then doubled the hosts' advantage on the stroke of half-time with his second of the afternoon.

Monaco manager Filipe Luís turned to his bench at the break with a double substitution, bringing on Folarin Balogun in place of leading goalscorer Paris Brunner. Although Paris FC remained in control of proceedings, Balogun handed the visitors a lifeline in the 65th minute. However, any hopes of a comeback were extinguished nine minutes later when Sinayoko showed excellent hold-up play inside the penalty area before teeing up Pablo Pagis to slot home Paris FC's third.

Elsewhere, Lyon closed to within two points of league leaders Paris Saint-Germain courtesy of a 2-0 win over Angers. The hosts dominated the opening period and broke the deadlock in the 38th minute through Ernest Nuamah. Angers offered little in response, and Lyon sealed the points four minutes from time when Corentin Tolisso headed home from a corner.
