The Public Relations Officer at the state’s Command, SP. Ebere Amaraizu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu that Nigerians needed to support the move by the Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Mohammed Adamu, to stamp out cultism.

According to him, a cultist is a deviant and a vandal that cultism in our various communities is a time bomb that needed to be faced headlong.

“Many youths that would have contributed their quota positively to the developments of the society had had their lives cut short while some are critically injured and maimed.

“Many youths have embraced cultism and violence as means of living and settling of scores and this is gradually affecting the fabrics of our society negatively.

“This is a worrisome development that requires urgent approach by all and sundry as these youths are our leaders of tomorrow.

“Parents, guardians, youth based organisations, religious groups, market organisations, the media and other relevant organisations are to join hands with the ongoing Police Campaign Against cultism and other vices (POCACOV) initiated by the I-G.

“The move is to save our youths from the claws of cultism and other social vices and to further make our communities more safer and secured,’’ he said.

Amaraizu said that POCACOV is community-driven and community-oriented; as it would require the partnership and support of all and sundry.
