Patrice Evra was rumoured to be heading out of the club possibly for a Serie A club-side with Juventus and Inter Milan suggested as strong interests, but the Club's Dutch coach Louis Van Gaal has handed the Senegalese-born French International a reprieve to remain in the Premiership till the next season.

Despite his rumoured exit, the ex France international was included in United's list of retained players published on the club's website and later the Red Devils tweeted to confirm his retainment with the offering of a new one year deal.

''We can confirm that Patrice Evra has extended his contract at #mufc for another year.''Man Utd tweeted on its official twitter page @Manutd on May 23, 2014

A statement on the club's website reads that: ''"Patrice Evra's contract at Manchester United has been extended and the popular Frenchman's stay at Old Trafford continues into his tenth season at the club.

Evra joined United from Monaco in 2006, since then he has made 379 appearances, scored 10 goals and also acted as stand in captain when former skipper Nemanja Vidic was unavailable due to injury. Vidic has already left the Mancunian club for Inter Milan.

The retention of the 33 year-old by Louis Van Gaal seems to put an end to the summer target of Southampton's Luke Shaw who was touted as a possible replacement for Evra if he left the club; In his 45 games for theĀ  Devils last season, Evra's playing statistics confirmed he was as good or even better than the targets Luke Shaw or Leighton Baines of Everton.

Already old players like Rio Ferdinand at Old Trafford have not renewed or been offered contract extension at the club.
