Most Nigerians buy mobilephones for two reasons- popularity and functionality.

As a new brand in this country, Obi Worldphone quickly toed the popularity line by attaching Nigerian celebrities to their brand.

I vividly remember seeing pictures of Seyi Shay holding a 2016 model on instagram.

Her caption read; "Imagine my joy when The makers of #obiworldphone sent me their 2016 model for my bday???!!! Thank u @obiworldphone I go soon tell u if e make sense."

Concerning the functionality aspect, here are some of the cool features the SF1 possesses.

  • Has a 5-inch screen,
  • Gorilla® Glass 4, which protects the screen,
  • 13 Megapixel rear-camera with automatic focus, LED flash and Sony Exmor RSâ„¢ sensor,
  • 5 Megapixel front-facing camera for selfies,
  • Storage- This phone has two variants, the 32GB of memory & 3GB RAM and the 16GB memory & 2GB RAM,
  • A 3000 mAh battery that promises to deliver up to 28 hours talk time and up to 10 hours video playback time.

The 32GB of memory & 3GB RAM is reportedly $249 (N49,613) while the second, 16GB memory & 2GB RAM, should go for $199 (N39,650).

While the SF1 ticks both popularity and functionality boxes, the prices might be an issue for some of the targeted mid-range customers.

Despite the prices, i predict that the SF1 will surpass the maker's expectations in Nigeria, despite it's newcomer status.
