The 29-year-old Portuguese player overcame Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic, ATP's 48th-ranked player, with a commanding 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, 6-2 victory. Despite a challenging start, Borges staged a categorical comeback, completely dominating his opponent, a former top-30 player.

This triumph follows a notable first-round win against Tomas Etcheverry, a top-25 ATP player. Qualifying for this stage marks the seventh time Borges has reached at least the third round in his last 10 Grand Slam tournaments.

Nuno Borges' next challenge will be on Friday against Russia's Andrey Rublev, ranked 13th in the ATP. Borges has yet to defeat Rublev in their four previous encounters. Before that, however, the Portuguese tennis player will take to the court this Thursday to compete in the first round of the doubles competition.

Thursday's action could bring more joy for Portuguese tennis, with Jaime Faria also vying for a spot in the singles third round. On the same day, Francisco Cabral will make his doubles debut, participating in the men's event with Joe Salisbury and the mixed doubles alongside Ellen Perez.
