Nuggets' Previous Offer Declined: Miško Ražnatović Speaks on Nikola Jokić's New Contract!
The Serbian center is accustomed to facing adversity, and it's well-known that individual accolades have never been his top priority. Despite this, his agent, Miško Ražnatović, believes Jokić's historic season should be crowned with yet another prestigious trophy.
When asked if Nikola Jokić deserves to be this season's MVP, Ražnatović has no doubt. He emphasizes that the Serbian star led Denver to a 10-game winning streak, achieving a performance unmatched by anyone in NBA history.
"Yes, in my opinion, he deserves it. He also deserved it a few years ago when Embiid was MVP, but he didn't attach too much importance to it. What was important to us was how he played then and how he's playing now. If you've read the news, this is the best individual statistical run during a 10-game winning streak; that fact says it all," Ražnatović stated for "Front Office Sports News."
While Nikola has never been overly concerned with the race for individual awards, he certainly wouldn't object to adding another MVP trophy to his collection.
"No one will say that winning an MVP title isn't important; of course, it's important. He would love to win one, two, or three more accolades, as would all of us. But if it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen."
Regarding a New Contract
Jokić's agent confirmed that discussions about a contract extension with the Denver Nuggets have not yet taken place and will only be negotiated after the season concludes.
"During the season, the focus is solely on basketball, winning games, and striving to win another MVP title. All contract discussions will be held after the season. Practically, we haven't even talked about that topic."
Last summer, Nikola Jokić declined a contract extension offer worth over $200 million for three seasons, which would have been the largest contract in NBA history. He decided to postpone negotiations with the club's management until the end of this season, thereby opening up the possibility of earning a significantly larger amount.
Although money wasn't the decisive factor, Jokić didn't want to rush, given that his current contract expires in two seasons. The offered amount was $212.5 million for three additional years. Since he decided to wait a year, the new offer could be approximately $80 million higher.
Jokić himself reassured fans after that decision, emphasizing his desire to finish his career in Colorado, so there's no doubt he will sign a new contract soon.
"I'm not thinking about it. I think those contracts and extensions come as a reward. Something that's natural in sports, especially in today's NBA. My plan is to be with the Nuggets forever, so that's my answer," said the best basketball player in the world and the greatest player in the history of the Colorado franchise.
