Enyimba had defeated Kano Pillars 3-2 in Match Day 7 in Kano and beat Niger Tornadoes 2-1 in Match Day 8 in Aba.

Mfom Udoh, a top Enyimba player told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday that the victories had confirmed their rising profile once more as the league’s defending champions.

Udoh, the highest goal scorer with seven goals in the 2015/2016 CAF Champions League said the club was poised to defend the league trophy they won last season.

"We used the two victories to make a statement; they are no fluke, we want to ensure that our position in the league will take a turn for the better.

"People always think that Pillars cannot be defeated at home in Kano, but in football, impossibility is nothing. Many teams have always had phobia in Kano city but not Enyimba.

"It has never been impossible for us to secure three points from Kano; if we achieved it, nothing stops other clubs from securing the good results too,’’ the player said.

The two victories had no doubt improved Enyimba’s rating in the league, from 14th position to 11th, with three outstanding matches.

The team is currently the country’s lone representative in the continental championship.

"We were propelled by the victory against Pillars to go all out to defeat Tornadoes. We want to get back to the top of the log as defending champions.

"We are champions and we need to assert our authority on the game,’’ he boasted.

Enyimba is due to meet with El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri in Match Day 16 in Maiduguri on May 11.
