José Mourinho's name has recently resurfaced as a potential candidate for the Real Madrid managerial position. The club's current predicament, facing a trophy-less season unless Barcelona suffers a complete collapse, has reportedly prompted Florentino Pérez to seek solutions. And once again, Mourinho is among the names being considered, according to Spanish daily "AS".
However, the current reality is far simpler: there has been no contact. No one from the Madrid club has reached out to the Portuguese coach, who remains focused on his work with Benfica. His priority is to finish the season strongly, and he has publicly avoided discussing his future.
“Can I guarantee I’ll be at Benfica next season? That’s something I spoke about two months ago, weeks ago, and a few days ago. I cannot guarantee what will happen,” he stated at a press conference.
This doesn't mean he's unaware of the speculation. Mourinho listens, he knows his name still carries weight, and that Madrid is a special stage. It always will be, as he experienced success there, even if he narrowly missed out on "La Décima" on several occasions. If such an offer were to come, he would consider it. But things haven't progressed beyond that.
The "Special One" has a contract in Lisbon, and barring an unexpected turn of events, his intention is to honor it. It would be a different matter if the context were to change. Because if football has proven anything, and Mourinho knows it better than anyone, it's that anything can happen very quickly. For now, there's calm. And no ringing phones to inquire about his situation or a potential return after the season ends.
