The Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped one place on the latest FIFA Rankings for June despite their latest run of form in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers.

The Jose Peseiro-led team went from 30th to 31st position in the World since the last rankings were released in March 2022. 

The three-time African champions also dropped one place on the continent from 3rd to 4th position as Tunisia overthrew Nigeria in the African Top 3.

Super Eagles drop in June 2022 FIFA Rankings

From the latest FIFA rankings released on the official FIFA website, the Super Eagles of Nigeria dropped on the latest rankings despite having a +0.69 points return during the period under review to garner a total of 1504.7 points on the board.

During the period in review, the Super Eagles of Nigeria played four (4) matches, recording two friendly defeats (Mexico and Ecuador) and two AFCON 2023 qualifying victories (Sierra Leone and Sao Tome & Principe), all under new coach Jose Peseiro.

On the world scene, Brazil maintained their stranglehold on the first position while Belgium also remained second. Argentina and France swapped places as Les Bleus dropped to 4th with the Albiceleste taking up the 3rd position. England held on to 5th in the world despite their recent bad form.

Jose Peseiro's Super Eagles reign so far

Jose Peseiro started his reign as Super Eagles coach with a 2-1 friendly defeat at the hands of the El Tri of Mexico at the AT&T Stadium with Cyriel Dessers' scoring his maiden goal for the national team.

Another 1-0 friendly defeat followed against Ecuador before consecutive victories over Sierra Leone (2-1) and Sao Tome & Principe (10-0) to start the Super Eagles' AFCON 2023 qualifying campaign.

On the African scene, the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia overtook Nigeria in the third position after the North Africans earned 8.06 points to move two places up on the continental rankings.

Senegal top Africa FIFA rankings, Salah's Egypt drop from Top 5

African champions Senegal maintain their top spot in Africa, earning 9.29 points to garner 1593.45 points overall. The Teranga Lions are now 18th in the World, making their re-entry into the Top 20 countries on the World stage.

Morocco maintained their second position in Africa while Cameroon came in 5th to round out the Top 5. 

Mohamed Salah's Egypt dropped three places to sixth on the continent after following a run of two defeats (Ethiopia and South Korea) and one victory (Guinea) during the period under review.
