"The fight for tomorrow" by Ajibike Oyindamola
The bitter pangs of deception
Filtering through our bellies
Almost making us retch
Because we had been deceived again
We had fallen for their sugar-laced lies
Diving in head first
And it did hurt
Like being stabbed with a dagger
A dagger being twisted over and over
And perhaps once again
God has forsaken us
So we march into battle
Putting aside our differences
We swayed to the rhythm of battle
Of a war worth fighting for
A war for change
We’d get weary in battle
Fall and get back up
Because like those before us
What we have, would keep us going
As we fight for tomorrow
A better ‘morrow
And in the end
Perhaps we’d be conquerors
God might forsake us
But maybe we are God.
