"Envisaged leaders" by Udechukwu, Promise Chinonso
Almost immediately, I saw the visions of our heroes
covered in attractive guilt
I became power inclined because of my phantasm
With falsified proofs from the obese starved men,
The crusade began and we trudged all over the nation
With farm produce a lot of citizens were beguiled
And the breeze of oblivion shook the hearts of the
native rulers
As they sold their nation in shekels and silver much
more than thirty
And all finally accepted my gospel of an incorrupt
leader
Now the sun frowns and bemoans my regime
I am a king oppressed by the crown
The sinister demand their eternal pay
Retracted by my cabinets, I became a puppet.
Are the days of loyalty and honesty far gone?
Corruption exuberant, in victory
Like my predecessors, I stole a worthless sceptre
As my policies were waved for their selfish desires
Just yesterday, I saw another Joseph shout “Vote me
for change”
