Brazil's all-time leading scorer, Neymar, has confirmed he will retire from international football after the 2026 World Cup.
“My time with the national team is over. I believe I made history there and was very happy. I experienced so much, gave my blood and my life, and always fought for the yellow jersey, but I think I no longer want it,” stated the 34-year-old Neymar after his club team Santos' 4-2 victory over Universidad Central in the Copa Sudamericana last night.
The forward holds the record for most goals in the history of the “Seleção” with 80 strikes, and is second in appearances with 130 caps. He debuted for Brazil at just 18 years old in 2010, playing in four consecutive World Cups and three editions of the Copa América. The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star never triumphed in either of those major tournaments, but he did win the Confederations Cup in 2013 and a gold medal at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016.
