Newcastle Targets Former Manchester United Prospect

Newcastle United is reportedly showing significant interest in Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba, according to the Daily Mail. The Magpies have been forced to part ways with several key players in recent years, including Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali, and Bruno Guimarães, as well as manager Eddie Howe.

However, the club's ambition at St. James' Park is to retain and elevate the team's level by refreshing the squad. Newcastle has already brought in a new manager, Matthias Jaissle, along with Bazoumana Touré, Aladji Bamba, Lukáš Horníček, and several other promising young talents. The interest in Baleba falls into this same category.

The 22-year-old midfielder boasts considerable Premier League experience and was a primary target for Manchester United a year ago, though a deal never materialized. A less-than-stellar season followed for the Cameroonian, and now Newcastle's hierarchy hopes to secure him at a reduced price. The midfielder is seen as an excellent option to bolster the midfield, where two crucial players, Tonali and Bruno Guimarães, were lost. Carlos Baleba is renowned for his exceptional defensive capabilities but also contributes offensively with his quick ball progression and impressive speed, allowing him to carry the ball into the opposition's half.
