Newcastle Enters Fray for Palhinha After Failed Bayern-Aston Villa Deal

Newcastle United has reportedly initiated preliminary discussions with Bayern Munich regarding a potential transfer for João Palhinha. The Portuguese midfielder has been on the Magpies' radar for some time, as they urgently seek reinforcements in the midfield following Bruno Guimarães' departure. Initially considered a backup option, Palhinha has moved to the forefront after the offer for Pierre-Emile Højbjerg was rejected by Marseille.

Meanwhile, Palhinha was close to joining Aston Villa, but that deal also fell through after the Birmingham club failed to agree terms with the Bavarian giants. Villa Park sought to sign Palhinha on loan with an option to buy, but the Germans are pushing for a direct sale. This is seen as the primary stumbling block for a potential deal with Newcastle as well, as the Magpies are also reluctant to outright purchase the player, who is valued at approximately 15 million euros.
