No reason has been given why the site went down today, Wednesday, October 19, 2016, but the New York Times Twitter account has acknowledged that the problem.
The website went down around 9a.m Nigerian time.
The New York Times app which is available on Android on iOS is still running however.
The New York Times is one of the most popular websites in the world with an Alexa ranking of 118.
