NBA Superstars Defend Dončić: He Shouldn't Be Penalized for Family Reasons!

Luka Dončić will not play 65 games in the NBA regular season, meaning he won't be eligible for the scoring title or a spot on one of the three All-NBA teams.

The Slovenian basketball star sustained a hamstring injury, and the Los Angeles Lakers have confirmed he will not return before the playoffs.

Dončić has since left the United States and traveled to Spain, where he aims to accelerate his recovery process.

Prior to his injury, Luka was playing exceptionally well, emerging as an MVP candidate and a strong contender for a spot on one of the three All-NBA teams. He was also on track to claim the league's scoring title, averaging 33.5 points per game.

However, having played only 64 games, he will now miss out on these accolades.

Agent Bill Duffy had already announced plans to appeal for an exemption due to two games missed in December when the Slovenian's second daughter was born. Now, Tracy McGrady and Carmelo Anthony have also weighed in on the situation.

This was for the birth of a child, not an injury or planned rest. The man had to leave the country for the birth of his child, and I'm sure the league will understand.Tracy McGrady

Anthony echoed the sentiment.

"We're talking about international players. If they have to go back to their country to take care of family and miss a couple of games because of it, they shouldn't be penalized," Melo added.

As a reminder, the Lakers currently sit fourth in the Western Conference standings with a 50-28 record. Their next game is against Oklahoma City.
