The most common reasons cited were injuries or illness. It's clear that teams were resting players in anticipation of the upcoming playoffs. The Memphis Grizzlies set an absolute record for the number of players sidelined, with a staggering 14 players out, forcing them to play with just six active players.

Interestingly, the Utah Jazz played their game with only seven players. One of the rare superstars who actually played was Victor Wembanyama. The Frenchman was required to be on the court due to the league's 65-game minimum rule. He dropped 40 points and grabbed 13 rebounds against Dallas, despite admitting he would have preferred to watch the game from the sidelines.

If I had already met the 65-game requirement, I definitely would have skipped this game.Victor Wembanyama

The NBA is in a tough spot regarding this issue, but the sudden outbreak of injuries and illnesses is truly peculiar, especially with the playoffs just around the corner.
