‘We are in control,’ Minister reacts to xenophobic attacks in SA

Obanikoro has said that the government is well aware of the situation and that no Nigerian casualty has been recorded.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Musiliu Obanikoro has reacted to the recent spate of xenophobic attacks carried out against Nigerians and other foreigners in South Africa.

The Minister spoke on the issue via Twitter on Wednesday, April 15, 2015.

“We are following the developments in South Africa and efforts are being made to protect Nigerian citizens in South Africa,” Obanikoro wrote.

“The Government of Nigeria is in control of the situation in South Africa as it affects Nigerian citizens. From the information emanating from our Mission in South Africa, no Nigerian casualty has been ascertained,” he added.

African foreigners have come under attack in areas of SA after indigenes accused them of taking away their jobs and committing crimes.
