President elect set to scrap sports ministry
The President elect of the federal republic of Nigeria, General Muhammadu Buhari is reportedly set to scrap the sports ministry after his swearing in.
According to a report by the , Muhammadu Buhari according to sources close to him will not be appointing a minister for sports when he picks his cabinet in a fortnight.
The report indicate that Muhammadu Buhari is seeking to go away from the usual appointment of a sports minister to instead allowing for whoever becomes the Director General of National Sports Commission to relate directly with the presidency.
The sources according to the report revealed that the president and his aides think that the appointment of Minister and Chairman NSC have not added value to sports development in the country.
The source who spoke to the Daily Independent cited the case of the outgoing minister Tammy Danagogo who he described as 'the worst in the line of ministers'.
“When you appoint somebody who knows next to nothing, what you get is a the kind of crisis playing out now. Their interest has nothing to do with developing the sector,” the source said.
"We competed at the Commonwealth Games without official kits. It was that bad.”
