Regarded as the 'greatest boxer of all time,' Muhammad Ali defeated every top heavyweight contender in his era known as the golden age of heavyweight boxing

Ali was hospitalised earlier on Friday on suspicion of a Urinary Tract infection.

Born Cassius Marcelius Clay on January 17, 1942; the three times World Heavyweight champion (1964, 1974, and 1978), famous for his line ‘fly like a butterfly, sting like a bee’ was the legend of his contemporaries which include the likes of George Foreman, Trevor Berbick, Larry Holmes and Joe Frazier.

Ali would change his name from Cassius Clay to Muhammad in 1975 when he joined the religion of Islam.

Ali retired from boxing in 1984 and was diagnosed with the Parkinson’s disease. He was known as ‘’The King of trash talking’ with his antics of demoralizing opponents before and during bouts to make them lose focus

Nickamed the greatest, he was released from hospital later the same day in time to celebrate his 73 birthday on Saturday.

"My father aka Muhammad Ali, is at home and looking forward to celebrating his 73rd birthday tomorrow," daughter, Maryum posted on Twitter
