Jose Mourinho was delighted with Real Madrid's 3-0 victory over Racing Santander as Los Blancos returned to El Sardinero after a 15-year absence. Alongside sharing his thoughts on the match, "The Special One" also addressed several controversial moments.
"It could have ended 4-0, although things could have also become complicated. It is a great win during an important week," Mourinho stated.
"Certain players, such as Bellingham and Diomande, possess superior physical and tactical attributes. What matters most to me is seeing a team that is deeply committed to the cause. We are evolving as a unit. We are not yet at 100%, as this is a gradual process. We now understand things that we didn't grasp at the very beginning. There is a strong connection between my ideas and the individual qualities of the players.
"The team's confidence is high. Football is played by human beings, and the emotional aspect is crucial. When things are going well, everything becomes easier. Take Trent, for example—he delivered an excellent performance after missing several matches. When you are winning games, things often look even better than they actually are.
"The hosts protested every decision, not just the penalty on Mbappe. That is one of the reasons I love this stadium—it has real character. The fans don't come here like they're going to the cinema to watch a show; they come to be actively involved. On the other hand, many people don't actually know the rules, partly because they change so frequently.
"The incident involving Tchouameni was never a penalty. From 60 metres away, I couldn't see clearly, but after watching the replay, I was convinced the VAR official wasn't asleep. That's a good thing, because it was not a penalty. The referee handled things technically very well," Mourinho concluded.
