African champions Nigeria today take on the le blues of France in a last 16 match of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in what could see the Nigerians play in their first ever quarter final match in its 5th World Cup appearance.
The team last week boycotted training due to unpaid bonuses and fees and it sparked fear amongst the Nigerian fans and community as the same fate had followed the Ghanaian national team.
It had been reported that Nigerian president Goodluck Jonathan pledged to clear any money issues to motivate the team in their game against France.
Saturday's presidential promise waiting to be fulfilled and the team has been offered a $250,000 largesse by a Nigerian businessman
The businessman is reported to be the CEO of one of the country's telecommunication company and a sponsor of the national team, Glo.
The CEO, Mike Adenuga Jnr., according to reports has already sent the money to the team to motivate them ahead of the last 16 game.
The money was sent through Sports Minister Tammy Danagogo who is currently with the team, speaking regarding Adenuga's benevolence, he said: “He (Adenuga) said this is a token and if the team goes ahead and shock the world he will join Mr President to shock the team.”
President Jonathan has promised to offset all outstandings and expenses that the team may incur in the course of the tournament.
