Premier League newcomers Coventry City secured a 2-0 victory over French giants Monaco in their final pre-season friendly. Ellis Simms (12’) and Lum Chauna (31’) found the net for the British side, both goals coming before halftime.

This match marked only the third pre-season fixture for the winning team. They remained undefeated in their previous two encounters, drawing 0-0 with Northampton and triumphing 3-1 over Spanish top-flight side Espanyol. Coventry’s return to England’s top tier comes after winning the Championship last season, and they face a significant challenge to kick off their 2026/2027 campaign. The newly promoted side will open their Premier League season against none other than champions Arsenal, marking their first Premier League match in 25 years.

Monaco, on the other hand, experienced an inconsistent season last year, narrowly avoiding missing out on European club competitions but ultimately securing a spot in the Conference League. The Monegasques will play their first match of the upcoming campaign in the playoff round for the main draw against Górnik Zabrze on Thursday, August 20th. A few days later, on Sunday, August 23rd, they will play their opening Ligue 1 fixture away to Le Havre.
