Redmond had joined the Marlins as manager in 2013 and had a sub-.500 record with the team.

Despite being contracted until the end of 2017, Redmond was fired by the team " as was bench coach Rob Leary.

"Really, we're just looking for a new voice," president of baseball operations Michael Hill said.

"There will be a press conference at 11am, where we'll introduce the new manager and keep moving forward."

The Marlins entered the MLB season with high hopes, but they lost 11 of their opening 14 games.

Hill said the Marlins had been below their best throughout 2015, and feels they can still improve to finish the year.

"There is still supreme belief and confidence in the men in that clubhouse," he said.

"We haven't played to our capability. And we hope that a new voice will spark and motivate our guys and get them going and performing in a way we think they are capable of performing."
