Michael Essien motivates Black Stars of Ghana to beat Super Eagles of Nigeria [Video]
Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has motivated the Black Stars of Ghana ahead of their 2022 FIFA World Cup double-header playoff qualifier against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Essien now retired is one of the best exports from Ghana known for his success with Premier League giants Chelsea.
Essien's comments come after Super Eagles of Nigeria legend Austin Jay-Jay Okocha labeled the Ghanaians as underachievers.
Now retired, the 39-year-old took to his official Twitter account to post a video of his goal for Ghana against Nigeria.
Along with the video was a message that said, Good luck @GhanaBlackstars #ComeOnBoys."
Essien scored for Ghana against Nigeria at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)
With the Super Eagles up a goal thanks to a penalty converted by Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Essien powered a header past Austin Ejide to equalize for Ghana.
Manuel Junior Agogo scored what turned out to be the winner as the Ghanaians recorded a 2-1 victory against the Super Eagles in front of 45,000 fans in attendance at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra.
The Super Eagles will be hopeful of a better outing when they take on Ghana at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, Ashanti, 8:30 PM Nigerian time.
