Michael Carrick continues duties today amid ongoing uncertainty over Manchester United future
Contrary to expectations that he would be sacked yesterday, Michael Carrick remains in his role at Manchester United for now. The Englishman arrived at the club's Carrington training ground as early as 7:30 am local time this morning, dressed in training gear and ready to take charge of the team's morning session.
While the squad had a scheduled day off yesterday, key executives Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox arrived at Carrington, where they were expected to deliberate on Carrick's future. Club captain Bruno Fernandes was also reportedly on site for scheduled treatment, though it remains unclear whether he took part in any discussions with the board. Carrick himself was also at the complex yesterday to watch an Under-21 friendly.
A definitive decision regarding Carrick's future has seemingly not yet been reached. According to Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic, talks are set to continue today with the involvement of co-owners Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Joel Glazer, and Avram Glazer. The former midfielder is carrying on with his duties while deliberations remain ongoing, though this does not guarantee he will be in the dugout for Saturday's trip to Chelsea.
The lingering uncertainty cannot continue for much longer, and clarity over the decision taken by Manchester United's hierarchy is expected imminently.
