Mercedes Face Uphill Battle to Seal Constructors' Title in Mexico

The United States Grand Prix marked the third consecutive race in which Mercedes conceded points to Ferrari, despite Andrea Kimi Antonelli claiming victory at the Circuit of the Americas.

While the gap between the two teams at the top of the standings narrowed once again, the Silver Arrows still maintain a commanding 133-point lead, having dropped 27 points over the last three race weekends. They have a mathematical chance to secure their ninth Constructors' Championship at this weekend's Mexico City Grand Prix, although the likelihood of sealing it early remains slim.

For starters, Mercedes need both Antonelli and George Russell on the podium at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, with one of them taking the race win. In the event of a 1-2 finish for the Silver Arrows, Ferrari must score no more than four points. Should Mercedes finish first and third, the Scuderia cannot score more than a single point for the Brackley-based outfit to guarantee the title.

Given these permutations, Mercedes' chances of clinching the constructors' crown this weekend look very slim, albeit not impossible. The title fight is far more likely to be decided in Brazil next week, provided the Silver Arrows do not surrender more than four points of their overall buffer across the upcoming two rounds.
