FG to drag Senator to Code of Conduct Tribunal for operating US account

Kogi lawmaker, Senator Dino Melaye, appears to be in further trouble with the Federal Government as theres a plan to charge him for violating the nations code of conduct act by operating an account in the United States.

According to a report by TheCable, while the details of the impending charges are still sketchy, Melaye is said to have used the account in question to remove the tattoo of his ex-wife on his body.

The lawmaker representing Kogi West senatorial district confirmed the report on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, when he took to his Twitter account to claim that he was being framed by the Kogi State government.

He tweeted, "Kogi State Govt planning to frame me up. AG and co trying to take me to code of conduct Tribunal. Surely they will gather but my God will scatter them. Truth must be spoken and established in Nigeria. If I die so be it. SDM."

Melaye already charged to court by FG

The office of the Attorney-General of the Federation has already charged Melaye to court for allegedly giving false information over an assassination attempton his life.

In the lawsuit filed on January 31, Melaye was accused of falsely incriminating Kogi's Governor Yahaya Bello's aide, Edward Onoja David, as well as making false statement of facts in a phone conversation.

In the suit (CR/106/18) filed before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Maitama, Melaye was slammed with a two-count charge.

In the first count, he was accused of falsely incriminating David in his assassination attempt claim.

The lawmaker was accused of deliberately giving false information to the police to frame David as the mastermind of the assassination attempt on his life at his hometown in Ayetoro-Gbede in Kogi State on April 17, 2017.

According to the charge, the police discovered the alleged falsehood in Melaye's claim while investigating his allegation.

In the second count, Melaye is accused of making with Mohammed Abubakar, son of the late ex-governor of Kogi State, Abubakar Audu, with the intention of harming the reputation of David.
