Aprilia Racing's Jorge Martín staged a remarkable comeback to win the Austrian Grand Prix sprint race at the Red Bull Ring, after a first-lap incident relegated him to eighth place!
The 14-lap race was marked by a chaotic start. Martín, who began from pole position and set a new circuit record, found himself in an intense battle with Marc Márquez (Ducati) braking into the chicane at Turn 2a. The Ducati rider forced his rival off track, taking the lead and causing disruption in the pack.
Amidst the chaos, Pedro Acosta (Red Bull) stood out, quickly climbing to second place and, shortly after, overtaking Márquez to seize the lead on the very first lap. The KTM rider set a blistering pace, building a comfortable lead of approximately three seconds over his pursuers.
While Acosta led, Martín began a notable recovery, pushing his Aprilia without sparing the tires. He steadily overtook rivals until the eighth lap, by which point he had moved into second position, having passed Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) and Marc Márquez himself, a move that seemed a direct response to their earlier incident.
Victory appeared to be within Pedro Acosta's grasp, racing on KTM's home turf, but Martín's relentless pressure led the rider to make a mistake, losing control of his bike before crashing out of the race.
With a clear path ahead, Jorge Martín secured an improbable victory, allowing "The Martinator" to break the championship points tie. He now holds a solitary lead, three points ahead of Marc Márquez, who finished second. Marco Bezzecchi completed the podium, solidifying his third place in the overall standings, 38 points behind his teammate.
